Greetings fellow Rope Droppers,
When I first visited Disney World in 2001, I felt like there was so much to explore: the parks, Downtown Disney...and of course the many resorts. Even though we stayed at Port Orleans, I couldn't wait to see spots in person like the Grand Floridian and the Boardwalk, that I'd only seen on TV (who remembers Inside Out?).
It felt like it was encouraged. So this week's top story, about Disney tightening who gets to use resort perks, hit a little close to home.

Walt Disney World made it official: starting June 28, you need a real reservation to ride the bus, or the boat, home from Disney Springs.
Cast Members are now stationed at barriers funneling guests into a verification checkpoint before boarding resort-bound buses from Disney Springs. To get through, you need one of three things: an active Disney Resort hotel reservation, a confirmed dining reservation at a Disney resort, or a booked resort recreation activity. The policy isn't limited to the bus loop, either. It also covers the Sassagoula River Boats serving Port Orleans French Quarter, Port Orleans Riverside, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs (WDWNT).
Disney tested versions of this around New Year's and again at Easter, reportedly to free up bus capacity for actual resort guests and stop day visitors from parking at Disney Springs and hitching a free ride to dodge theme park parking fees. Now it's permanent, and it's on Disney's official website.

Keep your hotel, dining, or activity reservation confirmation handy when boarding at Disney Springs.

We get the operational logic: free up capacity for people actually paying to stay there. But we've always felt the resorts are as much a part of the magic as the parks, the lounges, the boats, the quiet pool afternoons.
Tightening the perimeter, even for good reason, chips away at some of that. Worth watching whether this is a one-off fix or the start of something bigger.

If you've had trouble mobile-ordering from a Magic Kingdom-area resort quick-service spot lately, you're not imagining things. Guests report a "too far away to mobile order" message at Gasparilla Island Grill and Capt. Cook's (Disney's Polynesian Village Resort), Contempo Café (Disney's Contemporary Resort), and Geyser Point (Disney's Wilderness Lodge), all along the monorail loop. Other counter-service spots tested nearby, like Pinocchio Village Haus and Beach Club Marketplace, had no issue (AllEars).
Disney hasn't confirmed anything. Reports are mixed, some guests get through fine, others don't, and at least one regained access after updating the My Disney Experience app, so this could be a deliberate test or just a glitch.

Magic Kingdom's "Disney's Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky" fireworks show runs at 9 p.m. on July 3, 4, and 5, replacing the regular "Happily Ever After" on those nights, so don't be surprised when the usual show doesn't go off. Main Street, U.S.A. gets the patriotic treatment too: flag retreat ceremonies, Dapper Dans performances, and Main Street Philharmonic sets throughout the day. The daily Electrical Water Pageant on Seven Seas Lagoon, visible from outside the park and from nearby resorts, adds a patriotic section for the occasion (WDWNT).
Over at EPCOT, the "Heartbeat of Freedom" fireworks finale follows "Luminous: The Symphony of Us" at 9 p.m., also July 3 through 5. Spaceship Earth gets patriotic lighting each evening, and Voices of Liberty adds special performances across the same window, including an exclusive echo set on July 4 specifically.
And just announced: the U.S. Air Force Reserve's 920th Rescue Wing is flying over Magic Kingdom and EPCOT starting at 10:30 a.m. on July 4, weather permitting, courtesy of Patrick Space Force Base.

There's a new snack spot open in EPCOT's Canada Pavilion: La Poutinerie opened July 1, taking over the space that used to be Refreshment Port. The exterior got a full refresh: repainted, new stonework on the columns, a chimney, and a garden where each potted plant represents a different Canadian province or territory, plaque and flag included. A flying-loon sculpture rises out of the garden (WDWNT).
On the menu: Québec L'authentique poutine (fries, cheese curds, brown gravy) for $10.99, and the Montréal Viande Fumée version with smoked meat for $12.49, plus Canadian beers like Molson and Unibroue's La Fin du Monde. Scheduled to run most days 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
We love a good World Showcase refresh that leans into its theming without losing the point: fries, cheese curds, gravy, done right.

Secret's Out: Disney's now officially advertising the long-running "to-go" line at Oga's Cantina, no reservation needed, just queue up and walk out chalice in hand. Now that it's official, expect a wait (BlogMickey clocked nearly 20 minutes). (BlogMickey)
Sparrow Sails In: Captain Jack Sparrow headlines a new Adventureland pirate offering at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2026, though Disney hasn't said whether the fan-favorite Rusty Cutlass band is walking the plank to make room. (BlogMickey)
Last Splash: Typhoon Lagoon's final day before its seasonal refurb is September 8, so get your slide time in before then. Blizzard Beach stays open, with no word yet on a reopening date. (WDWINFO)
Rapunzel Returns: The beloved Tangled-themed restrooms in Fantasyland are back open after a spring refurbishment, their first real refresh since debuting in 2013. (WDWNT)
Derby Detour: The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge is under construction, so the walk-up bar has temporarily relocated to outdoor seating near the old Starring Rolls spot. (AllEars)
Booking Blackout: Disney Cruise Line's reservation system goes dark for maintenance from 4 a.m. July 9 to 4 a.m. July 10, so plan any booking or check-in tasks around it. Payments due during the window get a grace period until July 11 at 10 p.m. (WDWNT)
