I'll take a new Disney World eat over just about anything else on property, and this week gave us a genuinely fun one: Gideon's Bakehouse finally going savory. It's the kind of Disney Springs news that actually matters for planning your next visit, not just your camera roll.
Plus: a condiment giant just staked a very real claim inside the parks, and the Halloween party calendar keeps thinning out.

Gideon's Bakehouse built a cult following one line at a time. Now the same team wants your lunch, not just your sugar rush.
Six Ravens, the savory sibling to Gideon's Bakehouse, revealed its full menu and briefly posted July 20 opening hours for Disney Springs' former Art of Shaving space. Disney pulled those hours not long after; Six Ravens now says only that it's "working hard to soft open soon," with no new date announced (Disney Food Blog, WDWNT).

Once it opens, it'll slot easily into a Disney Springs day (fast-casual, no reservation needed). The owner says local chef collaborations (The Polite Pig gets a shoutout) are part of the plan going forward, so expect the menu to keep evolving.

Heinz
Kraft Heinz just became Disney's exclusive condiment, mac & cheese, and cream cheese partner across Disney's North American parks, resorts, and Disney Cruise Line ships, under a new multiyear deal (WDWMagic). In exchange, Kraft Heinz gets to put Disney characters on packaging for ten of its brands, from Heinz to Philadelphia to Kraft Mac & Cheese.
Early concept ideas floated by Kraft Heinz's team: Star Wars lightsaber-shaped ketchup dispensers, Cinderella-themed mac & cheese, Olaf-branded Jet-Puffed marshmallows. Nothing's dated yet, so treat the fun stuff as concept art for now.
As a transplant now living in Heinz's hometown of Pittsburgh, we can't help but grin at the ketchup bottle going full Disney.

Solar-powered, compacting trash cans have been spreading across EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, and Animal Kingdom since a December 2024 pilot in the Germany Pavilion, and social media has opinions. The chief complaint: guests think the bins lock. They don't, per Disney; a jammed door from overstuffed trash is the more likely culprit (BlogMickey).
The mailbox-style slot has a recessed handle (pull, don't push, that's the switch from the old cans), plus a foot pedal for hands-free use. If one won't open, there's almost always another bin nearby.
We'll cop to it: we used to treat the old-style cans as an impromptu EPCOT festival table more than once (we're not alone there). The new bins hold roughly five times more trash and alert Cast Members when full, so fewer overflowing cans is a real upside even with the learning curve.
Disney's rolling these out parkwide with no end date announced, so expect one "wait, how does this open" moment on your next visit. A little "pull" signage would go a long way, and if the grumbling keeps up, don't be shocked if Disney adds exactly that.
